Dresser and Painting and Trim…Oh my! One Room Challenge Week 4

Another week has flown by…and the leaves are puddling under trees even more, and the air is a lot crispier.  (and I mean that in a cold way)

Last week my favorite tree a few streets over was the most brilliant orange it was just breathtaking!  Today when I drove by most of the color was on the ground. 🙂

So are you ready to hear about my week?  It was good.  My oldest son qualified for state with his cross country team…It was pretty awesome!  I can’t wait to see him run this Saturday!

Oh wait…you wanted to hear about my week on the One Room Challenge?  Oops!  Ok ok…WEEK 4!

built-in dresser in closet

Yep, that is pretty much it folks.  The dresser, painting, and trim.  Oh my, is right.  And yes, I still have to caulk the trim…

If you are new here, welcome!!  You don’t want to miss out on how far this room has come… check out week 1, week 2, and week 3

ripping plywood with Kreg rip cut and ryobi circular saw
It all started with a lot of this.  Ripping, ripping and ripping.  Man I love this tool combo…have I mentioned that before?
drilling pocket holes with K5
After I ripped, I drilled.  Pocket holes that is…with my handy dandy K5.
building drawers
Then I did the building with glue and screws…and of course clamps. They play a pretty important role. Don’t want to leave them out, or my drill, I couldn’t do anything without it. 🙂
Building drawers
I also did some nailing and stapling too.  Which was a fun change.  Have you guessed what I am building yet?
painting the dresser with a paint sprayer
Ahh yes!  The dresser drawers and hampers, good job, you are so smart!
Once they were built I did some taping over my wood drawer slides, and my hardware cloth hamper fronts, so I could paint!  I used my paint sprayer to spray on an oops paint that I had gotten at HomeDepot a while back.  It was a light is grey with a blue hue…and I decided it had to work since I have no money for paint.  I still need to add hardware to the dresser too…just in case you were wondering.
Speaking of paint…
boys painting their room
What the heck?!  Aren’t these the cutest boys ever!!!!  You better believe I am putting them to work any time I can…which isn’t much, but it does help!
I told them we were going to paint the walls white.  A said, “They are already white.”  Ha ha!  That is why he is pointing in the photo above…he can see it now.

painting the walls

I am going to be real honest…I HATE painting walls.  Ok, I love the result, but I just don’t enjoy the process.  We did a coat one night together and the next morning I did a second coat ALL. BY. MY. SELF.  I totally deserve a treat.

Oh, and just so you know how “hard” it was…I painted the ceiling too…TWICE.  Yep, pass me a PB&J.  (Personal Ben & Jerry’s for those of you who missed How to install a plank wall and how to avoid the biggest mistake ever).

painting baseboard trim

Then I decided I needed more punishment painting time…so I painted the trim that I had cut and fit to the room.  I used 1×4’s and finally decided on white…trust me, that was a hard decision.  Maybe it was a wrong decision…but it is in the past, and I am sooo movin’ on!

sanding the bed slats

Next up was the beds…oh shoot.  I didn’t even mention them in the title.  Dang.

Well, I DID work on them a little bit.  Ok, about halfway-ish.  I cut all the wood and started sanding…for like a million years, so when A came out to say hi when he came home from school…I put him to work.  Muwah ha ha!  He got to do the bed slats they were dusty and dirty.  I used reclaimed deck boards that have been behind my shed for…years.  I also used them on my Farmhouse Storage Bed.  They work awesome, and were FREE!!!

I did tell him to wear a mask and ear plugs.  After about the first 3 or 4 boards he decided I was right,
and put them on.  🙂 When is everyone going to figure out that mom is always right?

staining the bed wood

To finish off my week I did the pre wood conditioner and staining of the bed boards!  Phew!  That took a while.  Now I just have to do poly, build them and install them…That is going to be the hardest part…seriously send me good vibes…

Rockler hardware for lego tables

Some exciting things came in the mail too!  All my hardware for my lego tables.  I can’t wait to show you. I hope to start those this weekend.  Hmm lets see, today is my husband’s birthday so it is out…Saturday is State which is almost 2 hours away…so that day is shot…Friday?!  Hopefully I can kick some serious building trash on Friday…

most important moments

Since I had no pretty photos…these really are the most important moments in week 4. 😉

See you next week, and don’t forget to check out all the other awesome rooms at Calling It Home

Hugs!
