Halloween Spider Craft

I love it when accidents happen, for the good.

That is what happened with this craft.  It came together quite by accident, but I love it!  Beware this is a picture heavy tutorial….

A while back I made this frame, just because, I wanted to see if I could…but then it sat in my craft room for months and months.

I have this shelf in my kitchen that needs something on it and I saw this frame yesterday.  Perfect, now to try a little chevron pattern to spice it up.

I decided to do a tutorial, since I now have a blog…
I made the frame by cutting some base moulding at 45 degree angles then I glue it together and nailed in fasteners (I tried two at first, but only one was necessary on each side).

Once I had the frame painted, it was time for the pattern.  This is where I googled free svg chevron patterns and came up with this…

It was so quick and easy to apply.
I guess all projects have some need for touch ups…
Now I had a cute frame….but what was I going to put in it?  I headed down to look at my craft paper…maybe I could get some inspiration.  Well I wasn’t planning on a Halloween theme but this paper caught my eye…
It was perfect…
For a spider.
I knew I had some wood scraps from another project that would work perfect for a body.  I went digging and came up with some supplies…
First I put the paper on some cardboard and put it in the frame.
Now I had a home for my “soon to be” spider.
Don’t forget to bend the legs and add some cute little bent feet.  The body is not touching the paper, just the glued on feet.  I actually hate spiders, real ones….but this one is super cute!
At this point I thought I was done, but it needed something…
Back down to the craft room…
I thought this would give it a little more holiday spirit.
And now…
So there you have it, I had no intention of making a Halloween spider craft with this frame, it just kinda happened.
The cool thing is…after October I can take off the spider and letters and do something else with the frame…I could even save them for next year.
My little boy was so excited to watch me make the spider, he kept telling me what I needed to do.  This would be a fun craft for kids.
Here are a few more shots.

Have a great day!
Lots of Love,
Mindi
