The one handed end table makeover

Hi Friends!!

I am here to share my next project!

“…But wait,” you say, “Don’t you have a broken hand?”

Why yes…yes I do!!

Something else you should know is how stubborn I am….

I was DYING to do a project, and my left arm is getting pretty buff…why not try?

I got this little cutie off the side of the road for free at our city spring clean up.  The bottom left drawer was broken, you can see where I glued it back together.  The top was scratched up too, but otherwise it is a high quality piece.  I didn’t have room for it…but it needed some love, so home it came.

I am still out of stripper so I tried sanding, with one hand, and it was like cutting through butter!  S0 much better than my Desk and Hutch makeover!

After sanding I used the last of my Rusteloum dark walnut stain.  Notice that I sanded all the edges and stained them too, that is so I will have the dark distressed edges.  It was super hot and the stain dried really fast.  I was so tired wiping off the stain, I thought my left arm was going to fall off!

And, in case you were wondering…this is how you remove drawer pulls, with one hand.  Photo by my newly turned six year old daughter. (please ignore the new flabby right arm, it is amazing what a week and a half of “no use” will do to muscle!)

I was feeling daring and went for a risky color, instead of a neutral white, cream or gray.  I actually mixed it and I really like it.  It does look better in person though, I would call it a mustard yellow kind of color.

Since I didn’t want to mess with drilling (I don’t trust my left hand THAT much) I just used the same knobs, and spray painted them with oil rubbed bronze.

I finished it off with three coats of poly.

It turned out pretty cute!

I did have my son help me move it around, but other than that I did the whole thing one handed!

Not bad eh?

I always love a good free face lift, now this little gal gets a new life!

Happy day!

  1. I love it – what a beautiful yellow shade –
And although I don't have a cast – I can SO get having to work one handed ( or in my case one armed – my hand works fine – but one arm has been rendered useless for some reason – pulled a muscle I think – I hope )
    Have a wonderful wknd!
    Hugs,
