When it rains, it pours
It is hard to describe how I feel.
I hear the constant humming of fans, and yet, I am grateful.
Three of my kids are sleeping on temporary beds, but I am so glad they have somewhere dry to sleep.
I live in Colorado about 10 miles south of Boulder. Most of you have seen the news I am sure. Our schools were closed last Thursday and Friday, because of rain….because of flooding.
After today, they are closed for two more days, and we are lucky. Many, oh so many around us are not so lucky as water is overcoming their homes, streets, schools, bridges, churches….
It rained non stop for about 4 days and nights last week and today….it rained, and really really poured. I was getting ready for church and went down to make sure my kids were getting dressed. I heard running water in my youngest boys bedroom, it sounded too close.
It was flooding, and luckily I had found it early. My son and I (my husband was gone speaking at a church in a neighboring town) ran outside to see how to stop the rain from coming in the house. We ended up using boards (he commented how blessed we were that I collected so much wood, lol) to cover the window well, that was full of water, and more to pull the water away from the house. I grabbed a ladder and checked the rain gutters and they were clear, it was just too much water coming down and they were overflowing. Luckily only one window out of the five in our basement was affected.
Here we are soaked to the bone! My jeans were so heavy! (only a blogger would take a picture at a time like this right!?) But it was so crazy, the picture doesn’t do justice to the amount of rain coming down, totally insane.
We had a ton of help from friends (we are SO blessed!) and after we got the water sucked up, the carpet ripped up, and fans blowing, we headed down the street to take care of another flooded basement.
And all the while I was feeling very grateful. Please pray for all the people that have lost loved ones, and can’t find loved ones. Pray for those that have been evacuated and can’t return to their damaged homes for a least a month, we know so many…pray for them.
And weird as it sounds (usually people pray for rain), please pray that it will STOP raining.
Thank you!
Mindi
I forget you live there. Oh my, definitely praying that the rain will stop. We were in a bad flood in 2010, and our basement suffered greatly.
Oh my gosh! you poor things! I will definitely put in some prayers in your behalf. Let's hope the flooding doesn't get any worse for any of you!
Aww Mindi, I'm so glad you were lucky to spot the trouble early on. I've seen the news, so sad 🙁 Praying for the rain to stop.
Oh sweet sweet friend…I have been watching the storms and we all have been thinking of you all. I am so sorry that you have been hit….there are no words to describe that helpless feeling of water rushing into your home. I can very much so relate friend. I will be praying for you and all of the other folks in Colorado. I will be praying for the rain to STOP! Please let me know if you need anything! I am so glad you had the boards….Peace be with you friend…Nicole
Dear Jesus,
We here in Ohio can use some of your Colorado rain if You've a mind to it. If you could please turn off their spigot-we would appreciate sharing their load.
Thank you,

Oh my goodness Mindi, I'm so sorry I didn't know. I was away in Colo Springs for work.
Minidi, I am so sorry. How is your sump pump (or pit) doing? I have been checking ours. Good thing you had some extra wood on hand! I am so glad you discovered the water coming in early on. Hope things have dried up for you this week.
*hugs*
